Online Shipping to Jamaica

If you’re selling products online or new to shipping, it can be very confusing. If you have any amount of success with cracking shipping costs or figuring out the weight of your shipping; you’re likely to save a lot of time, stress and strenuous phonecalls to shipping companies. Here are a few tips on the essential points you need to know about preparing to ship for your online store:

WEIGHT
Before you list an item online, work out how much the item weighs. The weight will determine what shipping options are available to you and how much you have to charge. Our advice is to spend the few dollars and buy a reliable shipping scale which will solve all the headache and can determine your package’s weight down to the number of ounces. USPS First Class Shipping is a very inexpensive shipping option available for parcels that are 13 ounces and under. Bulkier parcels or container shipments will require different types of shipping shipments. The default option for more substantial items is USPS Priority Mail. FOr heavier then you enter the world of freight which is not as scary as you might think.

BOXES AND ENVELOPES
When using Priority Mail, take advantage of the free boxes available from USPS. USPS boxes can only be used for Priority Mail shipments. If you have heavy items to ship, sending them in flat rate boxes will cost less. Help the environment an hold on to any unmarked boxes you receive in the mail as they could come in handy for shipping.

DOCUMENTS MAIL
USPS has a service called Media Mail for certain types of media items. Even though this service is a little slower than First Class, it is also less expensive. Books, music and DVD’s (do they still exist?) can be shipped using Media Mail.
OVERSIZED BOXES/PARCELS
Selling large or strangely shaped item and need it to be shipped, make sure you figure out the exact dimensions of the box you’re sending it in. For websites like eBay, the site offers a free shipping calculator to see how the dimensions will affect the shipping costs. If you are uncertain, and shipping to Jamaica, Guyana, Barbados or any other countries in the Caribbean then we can help. Oversized boxes can be costly to ship via USPS; not with shipping shipments through freight – take a look at our site.

LOCAL PICKUP
A local pickup is an option for online stores. However, do you want to give out your home address? Scammers can sometimes take advantage of sellers who use a local pickup. It’s advised not to accept PayPal payments for local pickup items as PayPal, or any other online payment schemes has no proof of delivery. The lack of delivery confirmation makes you very vulnerable, especially if the buyer claims the item was not received.
Once you get the hang of how online selling works, shipping methods are not so daunting. For the bulkier and heavier shipments, try a local search for the container freight cost and it will provide with local shipping shipment companies who will be less expensive than all the usual branded delivery companies.
